PRESS RELEASE: SHOESTRING PLAYERS HOLD OPEN AUDITIONS FOR CHRISTMAS RADIO DRAMA
The Shoestring Players community theater group is bringing a holiday classic to the stage this Christmas season– with a delightfully nostalgic twist.
Open auditions for “It’s a Wonderful Life: Radio Play” will be held on Monday, November 8th, at the Bellevue Society for the Arts, and Wednesday, November 10th, at the Ernsthausen Recreation Center meeting room in Norwalk. Both auditions begin at 7:00 p.m. The staged radio drama includes 63 roles, which can be split between as few as 7 men, 3 women, 2 girls and 2 boys. Sound effects will be performed live, presented by a full Foley crew.
Show dates are December 11th and 12th at Norwalk’s Main Street School auditorium, and December 17th and 18th at the Bellevue Society for the Arts.
“It’s a Wonderful Life: Radio Play” tells the familiar story of George Bailey, a good man at the end of his rope who gets a chance to see what the world would be like without him. Adapted as a live radio drama by Philip Grecian, the show is not a word for word recital of the Frank Capra classic movie, because it depends entirely on sound to tell the story.
It is not necessary to fit the mold of the classic film to be just what the Shoestring Players need for this show. Men, women, boys, and girls of all ages, with strong speaking voices, are needed. Those who can perform multiple accents or characters will be invaluable, as most actors will portray multiple characters.
Because this is a radio drama and all actors can read directly from the script, there will be fewer rehearsals than a traditional stage play. Director Nancy Derby may also consider splitting the cast between weekends, for actors who would like to participate but cannot commit to both weekends.
